Reykjavik Intl. Film Festival’s Icelandic Panorama sidebar will premiere five local shorts plus an English-language short starring a local thesp among a selection in the genre released in the past 12 months.
Icelandic shorts being preemed are: “Wrestling” by Grimur Hakonarson, “Rattlesnakes” by Hafsteinn G. Sigurosson, “Misty Mountain” by Oskar Por Axelsson, “Monsieur Hyde” by Vera Solvadottir and “Thanks for Help” by Benedikt Erlingsson. Tom Wright’s “Border Work,” starring Ingvar E. Sigurosson, is the English-language short.
“Wrestling” recently won the Short Fiction Award at the Melbourne Intl. Film Festival.
More than 100 pics will screen at RIFF, running Sept. 27 to Oct. 7. Special sections include a spotlight on Spanish cinema; a look at human rights in Iraq; and a Rainer Fassbinder retrospective.
The fest’s competition is open to directors’ first or second features, which vie for the Golden Puffin for Discovery of the Year.
