COLOGNE — Russian director Pavel Medvedev won top prize at the Oberhausen short film fest for “On the Third Planet From the Sun.”

Principal award winners in the international section were Vietnamese father and son drama “San thu’o’ong,” helmed by Ha Phong Nguyen, and experimental pic “Metamorphosis,” by Ireland’s Clare Langan.

The Arte prize went to British helmer Daniel Mulloy’s “Dad,” with honorable mentions given to “We Will Win,” by Lebanon’s Mahmoud Hojeij, “Orquesta tipica” by Argentina’s Nicolas Entel, and “Mic Jean-Louis” by France’s Kathy Sebbah.

An award donated by the premier of North Rhine Westphalia went to three minute short “Capitalism: Slavery” by U.S. helmer Ken Jacobs.

Amit Dutta’s “Kramasha” from India got the nod from FIPRESCI, the jury of international critics.

In the German domestic competition, the prize was split equally among Jeanette Gaussi’s “Three Notes,” Astrid Rieger’s “Mammal” and Norman Richter’s German-Iranian co-production “Vali Asr — July 2006.”

Best pic from the kids and youth section, selected by a jury of young teens, was “Schnaebi” by Switzerland’s Luzius Wespe.
