Peace Arch sets up U.S. unit

Company bows new film distribution division

Peace Arch Entertainment is setting up a U.S. theatrical distribution division, Peace Arch Releasing.

Peace Arch prexy of U.S. distribution Mark Balsam will head the new unit.

The division’s first release will be the feature film “Delirious,” which opens Aug. 8 in New York City. The Tom DiCillo comedy stars Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Alison Lohman, Gina Gershon and Elvis Costello.

The picture, which had its North American premiere at Sundance in January, won the director award at both the San Sebastian Film Festival and the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, as well as the screenplay nod at San Sebastian.

“Given our robust slate of new feature film and television productions, our recent purchase of one of the largest independent feature film libraries in the world and our pending acquisition of leading U.S. DVD distributor Trinity Home Entertainment, adding a U.S. theatrical releasing component is the next step in establishing Peace Arch as one of a very few independent, vertically integrated production, financing and distribution companies in North America,” Balsam said.

Peace Arch Entertainment’s expanding lineup of feature films and longform television programming includes the ensemble drama “Winged Creatures,” starring Kate Beckinsale, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce and Jackie Earle Haley, and the film satire “The Deal,” based on the bestselling Peter Lefcourt novel, with a cast that includes William H. Macy, Meg Ryan, LL Cool J and Elliott Gould. Latter pic recently completed principal photography in South Africa.

Peach Arch is also behind Showtime miniseries “The Tudors.”
