Mehrjui tops Pusan jury

Iranian director to head panel for festival

The Pusan Intl. Film Festival has announced the jury for its 12th edition, to be headed by Iranian director Dariush Mehrjui (“The Cow”).

Other members of the New Currents jury include Chinese actress Nan Yu (“Tuya’s Marriage”), Korean director Lee Chang-dong (“Secret Sunshine”), Serbian director Goran Paskaljevic (“The Powder Keg”) and Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, who earlier this year won the Palme d’Or for his film “4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days.”

The jury will present a $30,000 award to the best film in the New Currents section, comprising first and second features by Asian directors.

Meanwhile, the Sonje Jury, which selects the best Korean short film and documentary in the Wide Angle section, will be made up of helmer Leesong Hee-il (“No Regrets”), producer Kim Il-kwon and documentary director Choiha Dong-ha (“Taxi Blues”).

Fest runs Oct. 4-12.
