Writer-director Chris Eska’s “August Evening” has been acquired by Maya Entertainment, launching its distribution division.
Deal was closed following the film’s world preem as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival’s narrative competition.
Produced by Connie Hill and Jason Wehling, pic is the story of an undocumented worker and his widowed daughter-in-law, who struggle to keep their relationship together.

Maya Pictures, created by producer Moctesuma Esparza, is a production, distribution and exhibition entity dedicated to the growing Stateside Latino market. Company plans to distribute eight to 10 films per year theatrically and will acquire additional titles for DVD distribution.
Esparza was exec producer on “Gods and Generals” and producer on “Price of Glory” and “Selena.”
