Jaden Smith to star in ‘Newton’s Law’

Columbia, Overbrook pact on Brooks' script

Columbia and Overbrook Entertainment will test out “Newton’s Law” as the next project for Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Eight-year-old Smith, who starred alongside his father in Sony’s “The Pursuit of Happyness,” his first feature role, is attached to play a precocious inventor trapped in a science center during a field trip. Tyro scribe Carolyn Brooks wrote the screenplay.

Prior to screenwriting, Brooks worked as a visual effects artist on such films as “Garfield,” “The Chronicles of Riddick,” “Ice Princess” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” Overbrook, which also produced “ATL” last year, starts production on “Lakeview Terrace,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, in mid-June.

Brooks is managed by Jai Khanna at Brillstein/Grey and repped by Ken Freimann at William Morris.

Jaden Smith is managed by Miguel Melendez of Overbrook Entertainment and repped by Nicole David at William Morris.
