Holland to direct ‘Son’ comedy

National Lampoon lassoes helmer

National Lampoon has signed Savage Steve Holland (“Better Off Dead”) to helm its inhouse college comedy “National Lampoon’s Ratko: The Dictator’s Son.”

“Ratko,” penned by Robert Mittenthal and Michael Rubiner, centers on a dictator’s son who heads to America to attend college.

Project’s co-produced by InterMedia in association with Cinetel Films. Lampoon’s Barry Layne and Cinetel’s Pual Hertzberg are producing; exec producers are InterMedia’s Scott Kroopf and Cinetel’s Lisa Hanson, with Bill Berry co-producing.

National Lampoon recently purchased its first feature film, “Electric Apricot,” a comedy about the jam band phenomenon. It’s also planning to release this year its first inhouse feature production, “National Lampoon’s Bagboy,” starring Brooke Shields, Dennis Farina and Larry Miller, as it moves into producing its own fully financed comedies.

Company’s been involved in more than two dozen pics starting with 1978’s “Animal House,” usually through licensing.

Holland recently signed to direct “The Big One Three” for Warren Zide’s Flipzide banner.
