CANNES — GreeneStreet Films Intl. has acquired “Laws of Motion,” starring Matthew Perry and helmed by Craig Lucas. Hilary Swank is producing and playing a small role.
Also producing are Eden Wurmfeld, Ideal Partners Film Fund’s Jana Edelbaum as well as Daniela Taplin, Celine Rattray, Galt Niederhoffer of Plum Pictures, which had Sundance smash “Grace Is Gone.”
The deal was negotiated by GreeneStreet’s Ariel Veneziano and Edelbaum.
Penned by Elyse Friedman, “Laws of Motion” is a comedy centering on three adult siblings: an uptight professor, his sexually promiscuous sister and their hippie kid brother. After being apart for some time, they reconnect and realize that while they are undoubtedly dysfunctional, they also need each other more than they admit.
Shooting is set to begin in Connecticut in June, with a target release date of fall 2008.
It joins a menu of pics on GreeneStreet is selling in Cannes, including “The Nines” with Ryan Reynolds and Hope Davis; “Tenderness,” a Lionsgate domestic release starring Russell Crowe; and Seann William Scott comedy “Gary the Tennis Coach.”
