Goteborg film fest gets new topper

Kapla subbed as program coordinator

STOCKHOLM — Marit Kapla has been named the new program director of Sweden’s Goteborg Film Festival, replacing Jannike Ahlund, who announced Sunday, as the event wrapped, that she’s ankling for private reasons.

Former journalist Kapla, 36, has been substituting as program coordinator of the Goteborg fest for 18 months.

“I’ve been offered the best job in Sweden, and now that my substitute (run) is finished, I can simply stay here and keep working with these fantastic people,” Kapla said.

The Goteborg festival is the premier meeting place for the Nordic film industry. This year’s event saw a record number of 122,400 admissions for 700 screenings.

The fest’s seminar program, with lecturers including Milos Forman and Stellan Skarsgard, also attracted a record audience.
