‘Free World’ to open Dinard

Six Brit pics vie for Golden Hitchcock

LONDON — Ken Loach’s immigration drama “It’s a Free World” and Pascal Thomas’ “L’Heure zero” will bookend the 18th Dinard British Film Festival, which takes place in the French seaside resort Oct. 4-7.

Six Brit pics will vie for main prize the Golden Hitchcock: David Mackenzie’s “Hallam Foe,” Julian Jarrold’s “Becoming Jane,” Asif Kapadia’s “Far North,” Mark Jenkin’s “The Midnight Drives,” Sarah Gavron’s “Brick Lane” and John Carney’s “Once.”

Pics playing out of competition include Anthony Byrne’s “How About You,” Kevin Macdonald’s doc “My Enemy’s Enemy” and Lenny Abrahamson’s “Garage.”

The Dinard jury is chaired by French actress-director Josiane Balasko. Other members are actresses Imelda Staunton, Cecile Cassel, Linh Dan Pham, Claire Nebout and Sylvie Testud, actor Robin Renucci, comedian Laurent Gerra and documaker Michael Grigsby.
