‘Fados’ finds Japanese buyer

Film is a celebration of Portugal's folk songs

Spain’s Latido Films has sold Japanese rights to Carlos Saura’s “Fados” to Japan’s AMG.

Deal was for a six-figure sum, said Latido’s managing director Massimo Saidel, who reported that agreements were also pending on “Fados” for France, Benelux, Russia and Brazil.

Produced by Antonio Saura’s Zebra and Luis Galvao Teles’ Lisbon-based banner Fado Filmes, “Fados” is a celebration of Portugal’s mournful folk songs.

Pic includes top Portuguese artists, as well as Brazil’s Caetano Veloso and Mexico’s Lila Downs.

Deal was broked by Latido’s Saidel and AMG’s Akifumi Sugihara and Tomy Tomita.

“Fados” will be ready for Cannes, where Latido plans a major presence.
