Amato aboard HBO Films as VP

Exec produced 'Iron Jawed Angels'

Len Amato has joined HBO Films as senior VP, overseeing development and production of films for the pay cable net.

He’ll report to HBO Films prexy Colin Callender.

Amato was most recently prexy of Spring Creek Prods., the shingle co-founded by Paula Weinstein and Mark Rosenberg.

Amato’s previous experience with HBO includes serving as exec producer on the 2004 HBO Films entry “Iron Jawed Angels.” His first producing credit was on HBO’s 1997 longform “First Time Felon.”

In his announcement Wednesday, Callender said Amato boasts “a brilliant sense of story and has wonderful working relations with some of the finest writers in town.

“He will be a powerful addition to our executive ranks as we ramp up the development of our next slate of HBO Films,” Callender added.

While he was at Spring Creek, the company made “The Astronaut Farmer” and “Blood Diamond,” as well as “Analyze This” and sequel “Analyze That,” “Possession,” “Deliver Us From Eva” and “Rumor Has It.”

Amato joined Spring Creek in the mid-’90s, running its New York office as VP of development. He headed west to Los Angeles in 1998 to serve as exec VP of Baltimore/Spring Creek Pictures, a collaboration between Weinstein and Barry Levinson.
