BERLIN — The seventh edition of the Berlinale’s German pics sidebar, Perspektive Deutsches Kino, will open on Feb. 8 with “1.Mai – Das Ende von Lied” (1st of May — All Belongs to You), the festival announced Thursday.
Pic about the Labor Day celebrations in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district, where street parties sometimes turn violent once darkness falls and left-wing extremists clash with riot police. It focuses on three stories in a 24-hour period.
There are now seven films signed up for Perspektive Deutsches Kino — about half of the lineup.
Selection draws on three strands: pics with exciting stories and individuals, in front of or behind the camera, documentaries, and a strong showing of homegrown talent from German film schools.
“For some time now, we’ve been observing and presenting films by this most recent generation of filmmakers, whose work is gripping in content and mature in form,” said Alfred Holighaus, topper of the section.
