New Line’s picked up romantic comedy “Missed Connections,” with Michael Shamberg and Stacy Sher producing through their Double Feature Films shingle.
The minimajor’s acquired the project out of turnaround from Universal, where it had been development for several years. Story, penned by Gustin Nash (“Charlie Bartlett”), centers on a multitude of characters in search of love and friendship in an era of instant communication.
“The question is how do you fall in love at a time when people are growing less intimate despite being more connected,” Sher noted.
Shamberg told Daily Variety that “Missed Connections” will cover similar turf as two other projects he produced — “The Big Chill” and “Reality Bites.” Sher was an exec producer on the latter.
Double Feature produced “World Trade Center” and “Freedom Writers” and is developing romantic comedy “Man and Wife” with Gabriele Mucchino (“The Pursuit of Happyness”).
