France toasts New Line toppers

Shaye, Lynne to be honored at Cannes

France is honoring New Line toppers Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne as “Chevaliers Des Arts et Des Lettres” in recognition for contributions to the arts and literature.

Ceremonies to honor the duo will take place Wednesday at Cannes. Veronique Cayla, director of the CNC (Centre Nationale Cinematographie) will present the medal on behalf of the Ministry of Culture.

The ministry noted that New Line, whose pics include “The Player,” “Boogie Nights” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

New Line presented a 10-minute preview reel of “The Golden Compass” at Cannes earlier this week.

Previous recipients of the French honor include Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep and Jude Law.
