WIF honors Latina filmmakers

Winner hail from Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, L.A.

The Women in Film and the General Motors Corporation Alliance has announced the winners of its grants to emerging Latina filmmakers.

Erika Bagnarello of Costa Rica, Michelle Malley-Campos of Puerto Rico and Sarah Duran, Xochitl Gonzalez and Brenda Zuniga, all from Los Angeles, are the recipients of the Opening Doors/Abriendo Puertas: The Acceleration Grant.

Program, now in its second year, will provide the recipients with insights on the business of filmmaking through a six-day, mentoring program shepherded by members of NYWIFT. They’ll engage in two days of meetings and seminars with leaders and executives in the film and television industries and receive industry passes to the Hamptons Intl. Film Festival.

The grant project awards Latina filmmakers for their achievements in representing Latina/Hispanic communities. It provides winners with additional resources to aid in their roles as filmmakers who chronicle under-represented groups.
