The Writers Guild of America East has tapped Andrew Bergman to receive this year’s Ian McLellan Hunter Award for lifetime achievement in writing.

Nod will be presented at the guild’s 59th annual ceremony Feb. 11 at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York.

Bergman began his film career by writing the story and co-authoring the screenplay of 1974’s “Blazing Saddles,” which won the WGA award for original screenplay. Other screenplays include “The In-Laws,” “Fletch” and “Soapdish”; he wrote and directed “The Freshman,” “Honeymoon in Vegas,” “It Could Happen to You” and “Striptease.”

Bergman also penned the plays “Social Security” and “Working Title” and novels “Sleepless Nights,” “The Big Kiss-Off,” “LeVine” and “Tender Is LeVine.”
