Sam Riley

Actor, 'Control'

With the late Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis having become something of an icon for people who wear black to baby showers, British newcomer Riley ran the risk of turning him into a fashionable dead soul — or worse, just another dead rock star — in Anton Corbijn’s “Control.” But Riley manages to sidestep the music bio cliches, and his Curtis is as mesmerizing onstage as he is while engaged in rocking his daughter to sleep, working for social services and other such punk rocker incongruities.
