Reed Business Information and NBC Universal Television Stations have announced plans for the third annual Quill Awards, which recognize excellence in publishing.
In a first, winners will be announced a month in advance of the Oct. 22 awards gala, instead of at the ceremony, as was done the past two years.
Kudocast will be carried by NBC U TV stations nationwide on Oct. 27 and syndicated through NBC U Television Distribution. MSNBC.com will stream the event live on Oct. 22.
Al Roker Entertainment is producing the show, which will be held at Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Reed Business Information is the parent company of Publisher’s Weekly, Library Journal and Daily Variety.
Publisher’s Weekly will play a key role in the Quill Awards nominations process. Editor-in-chief Sara Nelson and a selection committee of PW editors will nominate five books in each of the 19 categories. Eligible titles will have been published between July 1, 2006, and June 30.
Nominated authors will be announced June 2 in Gotham during BookExpo America.
After that, a voting board of 6,000 booksellers and librarians will cast their ballots. Winning books will be announced Sept. 10.
AARP and Borders will play expanded roles this year.
