Unlike typical Hollywood star types, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie actually arrived early to Tuesday’s Gotham preem of “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” The two thesps began their walk down the red carpet 40 minutes prior to the film’s start time, which was, to most guests’ astonishment, only 15 minutes late.
Afterward, at the party at Gustavino’s, writer-director Andrew Dominik admitted that the pic’s first cut, which he did not show to Warner Bros., was “4½ hours.”
The film is “sort of designed to put the audience in a tranced state, and it holds them at distance at times,” Dominik said. “It’s not normal behavior for a Hollywood movie.”
As Brangelina avoided the press and mingled with industryites, pic’s Casey Affleck said it didn’t bother him that release of the film, shot two years ago, has been delayed due to editing. “I knew Andrew was a perfectionist, and I knew he would take his time with the movie,” Affleck said.
