DGA to honor Ryan, Roche

Duo will be feted for lifetime achievements

The Directors Guild of America will recognize Liz Ryan and Barbara J. Roche with lifetime achievement honors for their combined 50-plus years of commitment to the guild.

A graduate of the DGA-Producer Assistant Directors Training program, Ryan will take home the 2008 Frank Capra Achievement Award, which is given to an assistant director or unit production manager.

Ryan has worked with directors such as Christopher Guest (“Waiting for Guffman”) and Frank Darabont (“The Green Mile”) and been a part of more than 60 skeins and specials. She has also worked as first a.d. on digital productions (Gil Cates’ “Collected Stories”) and mobisodes for “Lost.”

Ryan currently serves on the training program’s exec committee and has been first vice chair of the DGA Western Assisant Director/Unit Production Manager/Technical Coordinator Council for 13 terms.

Roche, a guild member since 1978, will receive the 2008 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award, which recognizes an associate director or stage manager. She has stage managed a wide range of projects, from sitcoms (“The Jeffersons”) to gameshows (“The Wheel of Forturne”) to specials (“Tony Bennett: An American Classic”). Roche has also served on several DGA committees and as a board member of its national board.

The special honors will be presented at the DGA’s award dinner Jan. 26 at the Century Plaza Hotel.
