MONTREAL — Pubcaster CBC’s nightly yakker “The Hour” was voted best talk series at the second night of the Geminis, the Canuck TV awards, with show’s George Stroumboulopoulos taking best host or interviewer in a general interest or talk show.

Callum MacLachlan won for best production design for “The Hour.”

The lifestyle, children’s and youth winners were announced at a ceremony Tuesday night in Toronto. “Canada’s Next Top Model,” from Temple Street Prods., was named best reality program, and Nelvana’s “Backyardigans” won for preschool series.

“Skyland” nabbed the hardware for animated show, “Wapos Bay” won for children’s or youth fiction series, and “Make Some Noise” was named best children’s non-fiction series.

Joseph Sherman took home the trophy for direction in a children’s series for “Johnny Test,” while Eric Geringas won for direction in a lifestyle series for “Opening Soon.”

Marilyn Denis was voted best host in a lifestyle series for “Cityline” and that series was also named best lifestyle/practical information series. Shenae Grimes won for best performance in a children’s series for her role in “Degrassi: The Next Generation”.

The documentary, news and sports awards were handed out on Monday night and the drama, variety and comedy awards will be doled out at a ceremony in Toronto on Wednesday. The main televised Gemini Gala will be held Oct. 28 in Regina.
