Film brings in $1.77 million on opening day

HONG KONG – The most anticipated local movie of the early holiday season, “The Warlords” duly rampaged across Asia in its six territory day-and-date preem.

Pic, helmed by Peter Chan Ho-sun (second ref Chan), scored a thumping RMB13 million ($1.77 million) in mainland Chinese theaters on its Thursday opening day. That added to the RMB9 million ($1.22 million) of sneak previews on Wednesday and gave an end of Thursday total of RMB22 million ($2.99 million). Launch was helped by a rollout on a record scale with over 1,000 prints.

In Chan’s Hong Kong hometown pic’s opening day gross was a healthy HK$1.68 million ($215,000). That figure included HK$250,000 ($32,000) of Wednesday previews.
