‘Lust, Caution’ tops Golden Horses

Ang Lee film nabs 11 nominations

HONG KONG – “Lust, Caution” topped the list of nominations for Taiwan’s annual Golden Horse awards.

Nominations, announced Saturday, saw the Ang Lee-helmed pic collect 11 nods including best film, best, director, actor and actress.

Other best film contenders are Taiwanese director Niu Chen-zer’s political satire “What on Earth Have I Done Wrong?!,” Tony Ayres’ “The Home Song Stories,” and mainland Chinese directors Wang Quanan’s “Tuya’s Marriage” and Zhang Yang’s “Getting Home”

“Secrets,” the directorial debut of Taiwanese pop superstar Jay Chou was named in five categories.

Lee’s rivals in the helming category are Wang Quanan (“Tuya’s Marriage”), Yau Nai-hoi (“Eye in the sky”) and Li Yang (“Blind Mountain.”)

“Lust, Caution” newcomer Tang Wei competes for the best actress prize against Joan Chen (“The Home Song Stories,”) Li Bingbing (“The Knot’) and Yu Nan (“Tuya’s Marriage.”)

“Lust” star Tony Leung Chou-wai competes in the best actor class against two-time Golden Horse best actor winner Aaron Kwok, shortlisted for “The Detective,” Gurmit Singh (“Just Follow Law”) and Chinese comedian Zhao Benshan (“Getting Home.”

Prizes will be awarded on Dec 8 at a ceremony in the Taipei Arena. Event will be produced and telecast live in Taiwan by STAR Chinese Movies.
