Hyde Park greenlights MGM’s ‘Line’

Metcalfe to star in Dodson's romantic comedy

Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment has greenlit India-America cross-cultural romantic comedy “The Other End of the Line” for MGM. Pic sets James Dodson as helmer and will see Jesse Metcalfe (“Desperate Housewives”) as star.

Based on a Tracey Jackson screenplay, “Other End” centers around an Indian call-center operative who travels to San Francisco to be with a man she has only met over the phone. Lensing begins mid October in Mumbai before moving to the U.S.

Amritraj will produce and Hyde Park’s senior exec, Patrick Aiello, will executive produce and oversee production. Movie is set as a partnership with MGM, which has rights in North America. Hyde Park Intl. will handle all international territories.

Dodson is a former 20th Century Fox exec who switched roles to helm “Behind Enemy Lines 2” for Fox home video and penned “The Omen 2,” sequel to Fox’s remake of “The Omen.”

“This project was an organic opportunity for my mandate of identifying new and innovative ways to continually bridge the U.S. with the Asian continent and its multiple film markets,” Amritraj said. “This high-concept unique story offered Hyde Park a great entertainment platform to increase Hyde Park’s foot-print in Asia.”

Elsewhere in India, Hyde Park recently set up Indian reality TV show “Gateway” with Sony Entertainment Television (Daily Variety, Aug 1) and has local deals with Toonz Entertainment and Adlabs. Company has a five-year co-financing agreement with Fox and a second-look deal with Disney. Hyde Park is set to unspool Kevin Bacon starrer “Death Sentence” for 20th Century Fox on Friday.
