‘Host’ grosses $208,000

Korean film breaking records

Korean record-breaker “The Host” grossed a solid Rupees8.39 million ($208,000) in its maiden week in Indian cinemas.

Release, thought to be a first for a Korean movie in India, was handled by indie Indo-Overseas Films.

Pic was put out on 62 screens on July 27. In the six days to Wednesday it sold 72,500 tickets.

IOF backed it up with an $80,000 promo campaign making heavy use of electronic media.

Having preemed in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight section last year, film staggered Korea with its $68 million haul that was the alltime record cume. But it disappointed on release in some Asian territories. In North America it took $2.2 million for Magnolia Pictures.
