HONG KONG — Sales agent Fortissimo Films and Maximum Films, the Canadian producer-distributor headed by veteran producer Robert Lantos, have struck a two-year deal to represent each other’s titles.
Maximum Film Distribution will acquire the Canadian distribution rights to Fortissimo’s available lineup. Deal covers Fortissimo movies showing at the Toronto fest including Gala Presentation “Blood Brothers,” “Unfinished Sky,” “Love Comes Lately” and “Children of the Sun,” as well as Julian Schnabel’s rock opera concert film “Berlin.”
Maximum Films International’s titles to be repped in Asia by Fortissimo include Toronto-opener “Fugitive Pieces,” and other fest movies “My Winnipeg” and “Before the Rains.” Deal also includes future productions including Atom Egoyan’s “Adoration,” Randy Quaid starrer “Real Time” and Paul Giamatti starrer “Cold Souls.”
“Canada had been a difficult territory for us to fully achieve the results we wanted,” said Fortissimo co-chairman Wouter Barendrecht. “This relationship means that we will get the best for our range of films out of this significant market.”
“Fortissimo has an extraordinary lineup of crossover independent features,” said Maximum Film Distribution m.d., Tony Cianciotta. “We’re very proud to be representing their films in Canada.”
