HONG KONG – Lensing has got underway in Hong Kong on Singaporean helmer Kelvin Tong’s “Rule Number One,” after a quick change of investors.
Mandarin-language action thriller is now being produced by News Corp.’s Hong Kong-based offshoot Fortune Star with Singapore’s Scorpio East, Dream Entertainment and coin from MediaCorp Raintree Pictures.
Pic had originally been set up by Fortune Star with Innoform Media and finance from Media Development Corp of Singapore. But changes of personnel and withdrawal of the MDA forced the change.
Story follows a man who makes emergency calls to the police informing them of something strange in his house. Main cast is headed by Ekin Cheng and Shawn Yue.
Fortune Star is also on board Andrew Lau helmed “Gold Bandits,” actioner with 20th Century Fox and Beijing’s Ciwen Digital Oriental Film & TV Production.
Unit is increasingly being positioned as Fox’s low-budget local content arm in Asia. Last year it acquired library titles from China Star, launched a media content initiative and, as part of Fox’s new video operation in China, is to produce or finance a slate of movies for local auds.
