TV trade publications Multichannel News and Broadcasting and Cable have undergone an editorial restructuring in an effort to enhance the Web operations of both pubs.
Tom Steinert-Threlkeld, formerly editor-in-chief of Multichannel News, will become editorial director of Multichannel and B&C, overseeing both publications’ push to beef up their online news, analysis and multimedia content offerings, according to Jeff DeBalko, prexy of Reed Television Group and chief Internet officer of Reed Business Information. (Reed Business Information is the parent company of Variety.)
B&C editor-in-chief J. Max Robins has left his post after 3½ years with the weekly magazine. B&C executive editor Mark Robichaux will oversee daily operations of the 76-year-old trade pub. Also exiting B&C amid the restructuring are New York-based managing editor Susan Qualtrough and Jim Benson, co-chief of the Los Angeles bureau.
A five-person online operations group has been assembled to spearhead the Web push. Joel Topcik, formerly deputy editor at B&C, will become online news editor for the publication. David Cohen, formerly deputy digital news editor at Multichannel, becomes Web editor for B&C. Multichannel’s news editor Mike Reynolds becomes that publication’s online news editor, while Steve Donohue, formerly Multichannel’s editor of digital news, becomes Multichannel’s Web editor. Still to be named is an executive editor of online operations.
“B&C and Multichannel News are vibrant, healthy and profitable brands that we are committed to growing,” DeBalko said in announcing the restructuring.
