Variety on Wednesday launches VarietyJapan.com, the first daily Japanese-language website that will provide daily coverage of entertainment industry in Japan and Hollywood.

Debuting with a Tokyo launch party Wednesday, VarietyJapan.com will offer news, film and TV reviews, videos, lifestyle columns and community features, including fan blogs.

The site has editorial staffs based in Tokyo and Los Angeles, led by editor in chief Yuko Sekiguchi and publisher Shinichi Hirasawa.

VarietyJapan.com will draw traffic from Variety.com and from syndication partnerships with companies such as Yahoo! Japan and MSN Japan.

“VarietyJapan.com underscores our commitment to serve the Asian market with authoritative, insider access to the latest film and TV news,” said Variety president and publisher Charlie Koones. “The site will be a terrific asset to Japanese entertainment enthusiasts and a great way for advertisers to connect with Asian readers.”

The launch party, to be held in Tokyo’s Omotesando Hills, will host more than 200 media, industry execs and celebrity guests.
