Warner Bros. has tapped Thomas Gewecke as prexy of digital distribution, a division of its home entertainment group.
He fills the slot vacated by Simon Kenny this spring after a year on the job.
Studio created the digital distribution arm after a late 2005 reorg folding its homevideo, games and digital distribution businesses into a group headed by Kevin Tsujihara. Gewecke will work closely with Tsujihara to extend the studio’s digital strategy across current and emerging platforms. Among the areas under his purview: wireless, video-on-demand, pay-per-view and electronic-sell-through.
Previously, Gewecke was exec VP of global digital business for Sony BMG Music Entertainment, where he headed worldwide digital biz development and oversaw the creation of new digital ventures. He also served as senior VP of biz development in the digital services group for Sony Music, where he founded and led its mobile business.
