HONG KONG — Singapore has unveiled four more initiatives to boost its emerging new media entertainment sector.

Following decision last year to allocate $325 million over five years to the sector — which Singapore refers to as Interactive & Digital Media or IDM for short — the country’s Media Development Authority will reach out to global companies and educational establishments.

Four initiatives announced Wednesday involve seeking proposals from companies developing new media applications and services; gathering research proposals research and higher learning institutes; an online ‘jam session’ involving consumers; moves to make tech-friendly Singapore a test-bed for new media infrastructure (Variety, 24 Dec 2006.)

Moves will be overseen by the MDA’s executive director Michael Yap, who says three target areas are animation, games and effects; on the move media services; and media intermediary services.
