Time Warner heads media league

Conglom generates 13% of revs of top 30 companies

LONDON — The top 30 global media operators generate a total of $215 billion in media revenues — with the biggest, Time Warner, responsible for 13% of this coin.

This is according to research carried out by ZenithOptimedia, the advertising services company, for its annual survey, Top Thirty Global Media Owners.

Based mainly on revenues for 2005, depending on accounting years, Time Warner is by a long margin the world’s biggest media conglom generating $30 billion.

Next up is News Corp., with just over half that sum — $17 billion.

General Electric, CBS and Disney make up the remainder of the top five generating revenues of $14.68 billion, $13.38 billion and $13.2 billion respectively.

The U.S. dominates the top 30 ranking — 16 entries — followed by Japan, France, the U.K., Germany, Italy and Mexico.

New media combos Google and Yahoo! are ranked at 13th and 15th places respectively.
