ThinkFilm

Expanded company still waiting for breakout hit

B.O.: $9.3 million

Top pic: “Avenue Montaigne,” $2 million

Exec suite: Jeff Sackman, prexy and CEO; Mark Urman, head of U.S. theatrical; Randy Manis, senior VP, acquisitions and business affairs

Analysis: After becoming part of David Bergstein’s media empire last October (along with Capitol Films), ThinkFilm ramped up in 2007, but the box office bonanza of that expansion has yet to fully take shape. Late-2006 release of sexually explicit “Shortbus” got to second base with nearly $2 million, and company scored with French confection “Avenue Montaigne.” But other pics have been humdrum performers (“The Ten,” “The TV Set,” “Zoo”). The real test of the supersized Think will come with release of company’s big Sundance doc acquisition “In the Shadow of the Moon” this fall.
