2929's theatrical distribution arm has modest year

Analysis:After peaking in late 2005 with “The World’s Fastest Indian” ($5.1 million), the theatrical distribution arm of 2929 Entertainment has had a modest year. Korean monster pic “The Host” was a critical juggernaut and distrib’s best annual performer, but the film never crossed over as many hoped. Much-beloved Sundance docu acquisition “Crazy Love” also never caught on.

With 2929’s Mark Cuban continuing to minimize the importance of the box-office take, it’s difficult to discern profitability, but company’s HDNet day-and-date pics (“Fay Grim,” “Diggers,” “Cashback”) have certainly all tanked in theaters. The future looks rosier for Magnolia, however, with Iraq-umentary “No End in Sight” killing in limited release.
