Distribution efforts focused on First Take label

B.O.: $9.5 million

Exec suite: Jonathan Sehring, prexy; Mark Boxer, VP, sales and distribution, Arianna Bocco, VP, acquisitions and production

Analysis: The company flirted with a new strategy of launching bigger, pricier pics but stumbled over the summer with “You Kill Me,” a noirish comedy starring Ben Kingsley and Tea Leoni. Its opening in June in 35 locations was the boldest bow of an IFC pic in some time. Amid cutbacks across various units of parent company Rainbow Media, IFC shed a couple of jobs in publicity and marketing and was focusing its distribution efforts on its First Take label. Offering better upside to foreign-language or festival pics via simultaneous release on pay-per-view and theaters, First Take picked up a handful of Cannes standouts, the Cannes Palme d’Or winner included. First Take’s top grosser to date was 2006 Palme winner “The Wind That Shakes the Barley.”
