Shanghai court rule against outlet

DVD unit ordered to pay damages

A Shanghai court has ruled against a local DVD retail outlet for a second time for copyright infringement and ordered the defendant to pay damages of $23,245 to members of the Motion Picture Assn.

Shanghai Le Ying DVD was found guilty by the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court of copyright infringement for selling pirated versions of movies and ordered to pay damages and costs to four MPA member companies.

The same court had previously ruled that the same defendant had infringed the rights of three other MPA member company plaintiffs, awarding damages and costs of $4,119 in a judgment delivered on March 6, the MPA said in a statement.
