When You’re Hot

DreamWorks Animation (Paramount) wanted him in Cannes this weekend to help promote their animated “Over The Hedge” in which he voices “Hammy,” the squirrel. But Steve Carell was un-springable from Universal’s big-budget “Evan Almighty” — in which he plays a Noah-like character camouflaged completely in beard and makeup requiring four hours daily. And he must complete “Evan” in time to return to his hit series, “The Office” in mid-July.

The “Almighty” feature’s filming in Richmond and Charlottesville, Virginia where a giant ark — covering two football fields is housing animals a la Noah and his cast of ark tenants. Again, Morgan Freeman’s God as he was in “Bruce Almighty,” which starred Jim Carrey. Tom Shadyac directs the film which costars Lauren Graham.

Carell also has Fox Searchlight’s “Little Miss Sunshne” and in October he starts the Disney feature, “Dan in Real Life.” And in final discussions for Carell is the feature version of “Get Smart” in which he’d play bumbling Agent 86, Maxwell Smart. Don Adams had us laughing from 1965-1970, first on CBS, then NBC on this roll. His pet expression was “Would You Believe — ?” And the public did.
