Everyone’s talking (arguing) about this years’ controversial Oscar-winning song and lyrics so here’s a musical name which can only start you happily humming. It’s Gershwin. No need to worry about any of these lyrics. Alexis Gershwin, niece of Ira and George Gershwin is stepping out with her act after a one-night presentation of her talents at Hollywood’s Catalina Bar & Grill — home to some of the great saloon entertainers like Bobby Short. “It’s Gershwin Sings Gershwin.”

Alexis’ mom was Frances Gershwin, the youngest of the Gershwins (a third brother, Arthur), Alexis has grown sons of her own, screenwriter Hume and sound expert Bran. She hit the Catalina’s boards with a six-piece orch, three backup singers and musical director Steven Applegate. She’s signed with Capitol International Productions and manager Larry Spellman and she tells me she’s ready to hit the road. Her experience: Chicago at the Western Hotel, four shows a night, Summer stock, Europe and says “I’m off and running now.”

A seven-minute presentation of her hour-long show was filmed Wednesday night. How’re you going to beat this group of songs: “S’Wonderful,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “A Foggy Day,” “The Man I Love,” “I’ve Got A Crush On You,” “How Long Has This Been Going On,” “Our Love Is Here To Stay,” “I Can’t Get Started With You,” “Summertime.” Get the message?
