Now segue to the SAG Awards, March 29 to emanate from the Shrine Auditorium where the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Shirley Temple and presented to her by Jamie Lee Curtis — at this writing.
Shirley Temple says she was surprised to learn of presenter Curtis, having given the show a list of ten (male) stars as possible choices. “I don’t know Jamie Lee, nor did I know her mother, Janet (Leigh) or her father (Tony) — but he and I are at least of the same vintage.”
Producer Jeff Margolis relayed a note to me, saying, “It was Shirley’s choice — Shirley and Jamie have a dear friendship.” Shirley’s answer to me: “That is untrue. That is unconscionable!”
Among Shirley’s suggestions to ask to be her presenter was Bill Cosby, with whom she also received the Kennedy Center Honors. Others included longtime friend Bob Wagner, and “Mickey Rooney — at least we were contemporaries.” Temple has already posed (for publicity purposes) with the SAG’s trophy which was sent to her at home in Woodside, Calif. where she is flu-felled.
