Crystal cancels Friday show

Billy Crystal at the '700 Sundays' after-party on opening night Billy Crystal again cancelled a show at the Wilshire Theater in Los Angeles on Friday the 13th.  He officially opened the night before to a sold-out, cheering audience and a giant party which followed at Spago with over 400 friends and celebrities.  He had previously cancelled Wednesday night’s performance having been felled by the flu.

At Spago, the first thing he asked Wolfgang Puck was to bring him some chicken soup while everybody was enjoying groaning tables of Spago’s finest, which Billy skipped to try and cure the flu bug.  He was even reticent with shaking hands with well-wishers including yours truly, saying, “I don’t want to spread my germs.”

Friday night’s performance was to be a big charity fundraiser for Cedars-Sinai.  Crystal’s manager David Steinberg said, “We will try to figure something out to accommodate those who held tickets on the cancelled shows either by adding to the end of Billy’s run at the Wilshire or — otherwise.”

Doctors told him to rest at least Friday night and Saturday during the day.  Hopefully he would be able to return Saturday night, but that too is iffy.
