'Dolmen' bought in big auds for French TV

TF1’s murder mystery miniseries “Dolmen” was French TV’s ratings winner in 2005, with its segs scoring six of the 10 best audiences across all genres.

Best perf came from show’s sixth episode, No. 2 in the ratings with nearly 12.9 million viewers, a 53.1% audience share.

Show was penned by Franck Olivier, who is currently working on TF1’s Gallic adaptation of “Law and Order: Criminal Intent.”

Feature “Spider-Man,” at No. 12, was one of 11 Hollywood films to make it into the top 100. The top-rated U.S. show was a never-before-seen episode of “Columbo.” “CSI: Miami” was the only contempo U.S. series in the chart, ranking 44th with nearly 9.4 million viewers, a 36% audience share.

All of those shows aired on TF1, which as ever maintained its domination of the yearly ratings chart, notching 97 of the top 100 shows.

A World Cup soccer match between France and Cyprus drew the biggest audience, garnering 13.3 million viewers, a 50.4% share.

TF1’s newscasts were such consistent ratings winners that researcher Mediametrie included only one in its annual chart. The 8 p.m. bulletin of Nov 5, during France’s suburban riots, drew the third best audience of the year with nearly 12.7 million viewers, a 46.7% share. In all, 56 of TF1’s nightly newscasts were watched by more than 10 million viewers.
