Argentina’s Telefe Intl. has sold orphanage telenovela “Chiquititas” to the Disney Channel in Spain and hit revenge novela “Montecristo” to Antena 3 for the Canary Islands. Latter is a test run for airing it nationally or remaking the Telefe Contenidos format for the domestic market.
Telefe made the deals via ELG Media Group, its representative in Western Europe.
Disney will air “Chiquititas” on Access Prime, starting in the middle of 2007.
In other deals, Localia bought teen justice-fighters adventure “Alma Pirata” (Pirate Soul) from Argentina’s Cris Morena Group, the producer behind “Chiquititas.” Television de Cataluna (TV3) picked up Argentine history and social documentaries produced by Roman Lejtman, while Telefonica’s Imagenio secured 300 hours of programming for video-on-demand delivery.
Telefe, which handles foreign distribution of Argentine producers including Central Park, Endemol Argentina and RGB Entertainment, is stepping up its European sales efforts as feevees there expand and networks look for fresh formats for primetime. Its telenovelas such as “Los Roldan” (The Roldans) and “Montecristo” have been or are to be remade for markets like France, Portugal and Russia.
