Silver suits up in Spanish ‘Armor’

Lively helming English-language telepic

Joel Silver is teaming with Spain’s Telecinco, TVC and Fausto Prods. and the U.K.’s Skyline to produce TV movie “Body Armor,” starring Chazz Palminteri and Til Schweiger.

Filming has begun on the English-language telepic, helmed by Gary Lively.

Schweiger plays John Ridley, a bodyguard assigned to protect a mobster (Palminteri) who has turned government witness. Pressure mounts when Ridley realizes his charge murdered a U.S. governor.

“Armor” is the first English-language telepic by Estudios Picasso, the production arm of Spanish commercial broadcaster Telecinco, and one of the producers on upcoming Viggo Mortensen starrer “Captain Alatriste.”

Large Spanish cast includes Lluis Homar, Cristina Brando, Irene Montola, Cristina Piaget and Xavi Caplet.

The mix of U.S. above-the-line talent, action thrillers and Barcelona settings has been used in four made-fors produced by Barcelona-based Drimtim. The latest, “The Deal,” toplines Penelope Ann Miller, Dean Stockwell and Henry Thomas.

As a legal procedural emanating from outside the imaginings of Dick Wolf, “Bluff City Law” at least represents something novel for NBC.
