NBC Universalsal exec VP of communications Anna Perez is set to leave the company, she told her staff on Thursday.
Perez, top praiser for NBC U chairman Bob Wright, plans to ankle at the end of May and return to the San Francisco Bay area to join her husband, a retired broadcast engineer.
Perez joined the company just after the merger of NBC and Universal; her first task was to join the communications operations of the two companies.
She came to NBC U from the Bush Administration, where she directed communications for the National Security Council under Condoleezza Rice.
Perez served as head flack at CAA under Michael Ovitz and head of government relations at Disney when Ovitz joined the company in 1995.
Perez was press secretary to Barbara Bush during the first Bush Administration and spent eight years on Capitol Hill in various roles in the House and Senate.
Her replacement has not been named, but early speculation has centered on Rebecca Marks, also an exec VP at the company and top praiser to NBC U television prexy Jeff Zucker.
Perez said she plans to write a book about her experience in media and in politics.
