Oz fare blooms with Roses d’Or

Australian Broadcasting Co. scores first kudos

SYDNEY — The Australian Broadcasting Co. picked up the first Rose d’Or kudos presented to Aussie programs in the 45-year history of Switzerland’s international television awards.

Comedian Chris Lilley took the male comedy performance trophy for his work in laffer “We Can Be Heroes,” and Kathy Drayton and Helen Bowden won for their documentary about photographer Carol Jerrems, “Girl in a Mirror.”

Courtney Gibson, topper of ABC TV Arts & Entertainment, said the pubcaster was “proud to be able to support the development and production of these two extraordinary projects.”

Blighty product usually dominates the Rose d’Ors.

“We Can Be Heroes,” rebranded internationally as “The Nominees,” is a co-production of ABC TV and Princess Pictures. “Girl in a Mirror” was produced by Toi Toi Films and developed and produced in association with ABC TV and financed by Australia’s Film Finance Corp.
