MTV throws teen party

Series will showcase kids in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico

MTV Latin America has launched docu-reality series “Quiero mis quinces,” which follows 15-year-old girls in three different countries as they prep for their coming-of-age parties known as quinceaneras.

“Quiero mis quinces” bowed at 3 p.m. May 20 andstarting June 6, will air Mondays at 10:30 p.m.

Show is an original production of MTV Latin America. Chilean band Kudai recorded the series’ theme song and is featured in the tune’s separate video.

Series will showcase teens in Argentina, Colombia and Mexico, following the girls through the planning and preparations and finally the night of the big party.

From a “Phantom of the Opera” theme to a video recorded at the hacienda of renowned Mexican singer Vicente Fernandez, series aims to showcase the extravagances and indulgences of a cherished Latin tradition.

MTV Latin America is just wrapping up production on the series, says a spokeswoman, who adds there are no plans to air the series in the U.S., where quinceaneras are becoming more prevalent among the fast-growing Hispanic population.
