Soccer fever hits MTV Latin America this month in the run-up to the World Cup soccer tourney.
Feevee has acquired three-part docu “Ginga,” produced by Brazilian helmer Fernando Meirelles (“City of God”) and directed by three Brazilian helmers, looking at the influence and “religion” of soccer in that country. Pic makes its regional bow May 13 on MTV Latin America, which airs in Spanish-language territories.
MTV is producing sports talker “La Redonda” with a multinational panel — including Diego Torres of Argentina and Alex Lora of Mexico — who will take an unconventional approach to pre-tourney analysis. Players will make guest appearances. Show will air Saturdays beginning this week.
MTV Latin America also has produced a special, “Noticias Docu: Chicas, Este es un juego de ninos” (Docu News: Girls, This Is a Boy’s Game), about women from around Latin America who compete in traditionally male-dominated sports. Spec is skedded to air at 11 p.m. May 23.
From sister operation MTV Europe, MTV Latin America is already airing reality show “MTV Gol” and will introduce “MTV Cribs: U.K. Footballers” to Latin auds.
