Mouse webs go for cable combo

World Brief

Disney Channel U.K. has announced a carriage deal with cable combo NTL Telewest for Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney and new premium channel Disney Cinemagic.

This is the first U.K.-wide cable deal following the recent merger of NTL and Telewest, and it echoes a similar agreement with paybox BSkyB that will increase Disney’s U.K. audiences by switching channels from premium to basic packages.

Deal also includes on-demand and broadband content for cable customers.

Meanwhile, Telewest-distributed fledgling video-on-demand movie service FilmFlex, backed by Sony, Disney TV and the On Demand Group, have completed a licensing agreement with NBC Universal for VOD rights to a 4,000-plus pic package including “King Kong” and “Pride & Prejudice.”
