Mexico City gets ‘Latinoamerica’ awards

Event will air later on MTV and MTV2 in the U.S .

MTV Network Latin America will bring its fifth awards show to Mexico City, with a live broadcast to air from the Palacio de los Deportes on Oct. 19.

After three years in Miami, last October’s event in Cancun was scrapped when Hurricane Wilma bore down on Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula and stars and crew had to be evacuated at the last minute.

The Latin VMAs, renamed “Los premios MTV Latinoamerica 2006,” will air live on Spanish-language MTV Latin America and on sister U.S. net MTV Tr3s.

It also will air later on MTV and MTV2 in the U.S .and on some broadcasters in Latin America.

MTV Latin America inked a support agreement with the Mexico City government to bring the show to the metropolis.

Nominees have not yet been announced.
